Our family did a last minute trip to Disney World. We had planned to stay at a moderate accomodation but they were all booked. Fort Wilderness was one of the last options in our price range (because there were only premium choices left). We hummed and hawed about this so called 2 star resort. It is rustic but it was nice that the kids could play without us having to worry about the neighbors below or beside us as they would have in a regular hotel room. We also ended up having unseasonably wet weather. We all agreed that the added space, the seperate bedroom, and kitchen facilities made it seem a non-issue. If 3 adults and 2 energetic kids had been stuck in a 250 sq ft room during that much rain we would have gone crazy. In otherwords the space was nice. The kids had fun playing in and around the cabin although be prewarned that there are 4 kinds of poisonous snakes in the area.....although apparently very rarely seen. Car use is discouraged at this resort which can be inconvenient when you have group members who have difficulty walking distances. For example the restaurant has no parking....you can bus it from your cabin and then walk the rest of the way. Travellers with children who refuse a stroller or those who have limited mobility could find this prohibitive. Food was good though (and can even accomodate some allergies) and the little store has just about everything you really need. Overall it was so much better than we had imagined and we all agreed we'd consider it first next time. Just for the record we have stayed at several of the other Disney resorts in the past. This was by far our favorite despite the 2* rating.

We traveled with 4 adults, a nine year old and my 2 year old who has special medical needs. Disney's Ft. Wilderness went out of there way to assist us. We were guided into shipping some of her medications and equipment prior to our arrival. It was great! The full size kitchen was a huge help and saved us tons of money! The resort is a wonderful place to still receive Disney attention, but unwind a bit from the hecticness of the parks. The pools were nice, the beach fantastic and transportation a breeze. Be sure to use Gardengrocer.com for free grocery deliverary. We ordered everything online, picked our date and time for delivary and VIOLA....our food was there and put away for us! We were even able to purchase diapers and wipes, charcoal for the grill, and laundry soap. These folks are nice to work with. The even called a few days ahead to confirm our order.

Spent a quick, fun weekend at Ft. Wilderness (cabin) and the Magic Kingdom. The cabins are a fun alternative to hotel stays, with full kitchens and barbque grills. Plenty of room for our party of 2 adults and 3 kids. With the money we saved per night using an online company (compared to Disney going rate), we rented a golf cart and tricked it out with battery operated lights, which was non-essential, but fun to have. The kids enjoyed the $4 pony rides and visiting the animals every day. Boat ride to the MK is quick and easy. Didn't have to wait more than 15 minutes either way. Overall, high ratings for all the Disney fun, with an outdoor, community campground feel.
